Salesforce London’s Calling 2018: Todd Talks Einstein and Offline Mobile Apps

rsz_28423962_2013726415548367_5500423501217783306_oLast month, the third annual edition of Europe’s largest community-led event for Salesforce professionals took place in London. London’s Calling is an event designed to bring together anyone working with Salesforce to network, share ideas, solve problems, and learn new skills

We were particularly excited about the event, as our Lead Mobile Technical Architect, Todd Halfpenny, was not only part of the team in charge, but was also presenting for the third year running.

The rest of the great organising and volunteering team was diverse, including Simon Goodyear, Kerry Townsend, Amanda Beard-Neilson, Francis Pindar, Jodi Wagner, and Lauren Touyet. We’re very proud of our contribution to these Salesforce community events, which also extends to our sponsorship of the London Developer User Group.

2018 was the best year yet

The event seems to be getting bigger and better every year, and 2018 promised plenty of interesting attractions and engaging sessions for attendees to get involved in.

Salesforce Consultancies Face a Whole New Class of Mobile App

Salesforce consultancies are facing a significant demand for mobile apps from prospective clients that, for one reason or another, they’re unable to meet. This article explores the separation of all available enterprise mobile applications into five ‘Classes’, based on their varying complexity and capabilities. This will allow consultancies (and end users) to more accurately assess their needs, from both a technical and a commercial point of view, reducing the rate of failure currently associated with mobile app projects.

More and more opportunities have been arising in recent years for Salesforce consultancies and solution providers to build enterprise mobile applications. Unfortunately, for various reasons, they’re often either having to turn these prospective clients down, or are taking on the projects and failing – and this is happening far too often.

A Customer Perspective: Delivering Outstanding Salesforce Mobile Apps with MobileCaddy

salesforce-mobile-appsThere are many complex technical and commercial decisions to be made by enterprises when searching for a solution to build effective Salesforce mobile apps in the current market. But when an organisation is able to find the right technology, which can deliver exactly what they need, how does the process then continue, and how should the relationship develop?

Following the successful completion of a mobile app project for a customer named The Travel Corporation, Ltd. (TTC), alongside our strategic partners Appirio, we recently sat down to speak with Calvin Goodenough, the Subject Matter Expert from the project, to ask him about his experience working with MobileCaddy.

What was your first impression of working with MobileCaddy?

Calvin Goodenough: A previous attempt had been made at getting the Tour Operations Portal (TOPS) mobile app project off the ground in September 2015, but this was ultimately abandoned. As a consultant, I wasn’t involved in the selection of the partners, so had no knowledge of them prior to our first kick-off meeting in mid-December.

Why adding photo capture to your offline mobile app is so powerful

One of the hidden gems when mobilising your force.com applications is discovering that simple device capabilities can have a significant impact on the value that gets delivered.

Take for example the ability to take a photo and store the image on the record back at the platform. This today is quite an easy things to achieve (in fact MobileCaddy allows you to just use long text fields so no integration work or extra storage is required).

Ionic + MobileCaddy = Rapid, Offline Salesforce Mobile Apps

Ionic UK LogoMobileCaddy had the honour of being asked to present at the first meetup for the Ionic framework user community in the UK, London.

With our commitment to making it easier for JavaScript developers to work with the Salesforce.com platform to rapidly build fully offline mobile apps this was a really exciting prospect.

And we weren’t let down. The meetup was at capacity weeks before the event and even with a move to a larger venue this was soon on a waiting list again.

Ionic is an awesome open source front-end SDK for rapidly building hybrid mobile apps with HTML5.
