Nov 2017: MobileCaddy Trust Update

Welcome to our November 2017 MobileCaddy Trust update, designed to keep you up to speed with all the latest mobile OS releases and new versions, cover anything relevant which is new with the Salesforce platform, and offer a look ahead to forthcoming changes or issues which will be important for you to keep an eye on.

OS Releases

iOS

iOS 11

Following the release of iOS 11 in September and the first minor updates to fix some of the more critical issues and apply security patches. At the time of writing, v11.1.2 is currently GA.

There should be no need to update container apps for this minor release.

The Developer and Public Betas are continuing to roll-out and these have been progressing without issue through our daily test runs. At the time of writing, the latest Public Beta is 11.2 Beta 4.

Android

Android Oreo (‘O’)

A minor release to Android in the form of Android 8.1 has been announced with it currently in developer release. It includes new features, and APIs (API level 27), along with the latest optimizations, bug fixes, and security updates.

According to the latest from Google, v8.1 has an estimated GA timeframe of mid-December 2018.

At the time of writing there should be no need to update container apps for Android ‘O’ v8.1.

Salesforce Platform

Releases

With Winter ‘18 and Dreamfroce ‘17 behind us, we’re all looking next to Spring ‘18. Based on previous years, is likely to arrive on pre-release orgs sometime in the first week of January, with pre-release sign-ups open mid December. As with all releases, MobileCaddy will be testing on the very first pre-release date right through to Sandbox updates and production release.

Here’s a list of known Salesforce issues currently assigned to the Spring ‘18 release. The count currently stands at 170 issues. None of these are believed to impact MobileCaddy users.

Org Migrations

From time-to-time, Salesforce undertakes a maintenance operation called an Instance Refresh. This is performed for various reason, but primarily to maintain good performance. As part of this your org may be moved to a new data center. More information on this, and steps that might be needed, can be found in this Salesforce Help Document.
